Dangerous toxins in Skin Food polishes

Photobucket A kind friend just forwarded this piece of news to me and I thought I ought to share it with you all. =]

The Hong Kong government has recently discovered high levels of harmful chemicals benzene and toluene in some Asian nail polish brands and Skin Food is amongst one of them. Benzene is a known human carcinogen while toluene is one of the Big 3 toxic chemicals that a lot of the established brands have already taken out of their formulations.

Even though Skin Food is not readily available for sale in North America, it can indeed be purchased on eBay and other online retailers. I know a lot of ladies have bought these because of the adorable packaging and the wide range of colours that they provide (like myself) so I just thought this article might interest you. Please click here to view! =]

I guess Skin Food is not a good choice if you want to go Big 3 Free. I don't know what to do with mine yet but I'll definitely be putting them aside. =[

Edit: There are two images in the article, if you click on to the next one you will be able to find a table with all the problematic nail polishes along with the harmful toxins found in them. I hope this helps!

  1. In the article, they only mentioned nail care products... That's quite unfortunately, but thank you so much for sharing this with us. I have a bottle of BB Cream made by Skin Food.

  3. Thanks for the warning Wan! Scary that a product would be called "Skin Food" if we have to be wary of it! Danielle x

  7. Thanks for the info. I don't have any skinfood polishes, but I do have a bottle of BNC that I bought from HK in January. Thank God I've only used it once(?), but 260ppm Benzene and 41,000ppm Methanol?? I'm glad I'm still alive!! I will have to toss that!

  11. Thanks for the warning! I have a few Skin Food nail polishes but not from the Milk Creamy line. I also have a few BNC polishes. But it says in the chart that it's the nail hardener that wasn't approved. Or did I interpret it wrong? Does the article mean ALL of Skin Food and BNC nail polishes?
