Incorporating lifestyle photography into beauty blogging

Hello everyone! So you may have noticed that the photos on this blog have recently changed in composition and appearance (particularly the swatches of Chanel Khaki Vert and Essie Power Clutch). The reason is because I have decided to revamp my work and incorporate lifestyle photography into beauty blogging. For those of you who do not know what lifestyle photography is, it's a style of photography which aims to re-create real-life situations in a controlled environment. The results are candid and realistic photographs which are characterized by bright, airy lighting as opposed to studio shots.

My idea behind this was because a lot of the times, you tend to notice someone else's (or your own) manicure through your everyday activities. Whether they're holding onto a cup of their much needed morning coffee or texting madly on their smart phones, you may catch a glimpse of what they're wearing on their nails and think to yourself, "Oh my gosh, that's such a pretty colour!" And then an instant lemming is created and you find yourself hunting that polish down as soon as you get a chance to. I would like to try and capture that special moment as I find this approach more unique, natural-looking and not as deliberate. I hope you ladies will like it too! :)

  1. These pictures are awesome!! And I love this polish ;0)

  2. That's exactly what I try to do on my blog and couldn't find a name for it, didn't even know "lifestyle photography !" existed ! :)
I like your pictures, keep up the good work !
    Xx. S

  3. Love this style of photography, looking for ward to seeing more of it in the future! :)

    xx Veronica

  4. Marisa- Aww, you're so sweet! Thank you so much!

S.- I just visited your blog! Your pictures are so pretty! Keep up the great work!

Veronica- Thank you! I've been brainstorming new photo ideas and I can't wait to try them out! :)

  5. The new swatch layout/idea is fanastic, I love it!

  6. I really like this idea for swatches. I find myself very often getting a polish lemming from something I spontaneously saw on another person's nails. Beautiful photos!

  7. I LOVE your idea as well! Lifestyle photography for swatches are way more unique and interesting!!

  8. I really like that approach :) And I love photography, so I can imagine it must be fun to do!

  9. Ashley- I'm really glad you like it! I was a lil worried about attempting this approach at first because it seemed like big, zoomed in photos of nails were preferred over ones that gave a lil more context of the surroundings. I'm very happy I've been receiving such lovely comments from you guys! Thank you so much!

Katie- I totally agree with you! And not to mention that it's through the daily activities that other people notices your own manicures and compliment you on it. :)

Natalie- Thank you so much, it means a lot to me! I will be posting regular swatches along with the lifestyle ones so we'll have the best of both worlds. :)

Swååfie- It sure is a lot of fun! However, there are many technical issues associated with this new approach as I can not hold onto the camera when taking the shot. But I'm willing to do anything for pretty photos! :)

  10. They are really artistic and yes, much more inspiring than just regular swatches! In beauty blogs people tend to forget that not only the tips but the hand as well is part of the beauty.

I'd love to take more intriguing pictures like this. But I have to shoot my own pics and can only reach an arms length of the nails. Also I'm terrible at aiming "blind" towards myself. So I just grab something to my hand every now and then - especially flowers. Now that summer´s gone it takes the half of the fun out because there are no flowers and just faint rays of light (Finland). Glad there are blogs like yours that bring the sun with them :)

  11. I think it's a very good idea! :)

  12. Doo- Thank you so much for your support Doo! I was worried that the new approach won't be as popular because you don't get to see the beauty of the nail polishes close-up. I will definitely try my best and come up with more inspiring pictures! P.S. I've always loved the photos you take for your blog! Keep up the amazing work xoxo!

    MQ- Thank youuu!

Thank you for leaving a comment! :)
